OUR MISSION

To transform the way people and communities grow, produce, and access food. Our vision is to help build a robust regional food economy that enriches and connects the community, making it more economically and environmentally resilient.

HOW WE GOT HERE

In 2012, Treebird started with a strong feeling that there needed to be a big shift toward building a resilient regional food system. There was a high level of interest in fruit and vegetable farming, whereas meat was still a huge opportunity for impact. So we learned how to raise and process meat in Trout Lake, WA. We opened our on-farm butcher shop in 2017, selling direct to consumer through the farmer’s markets and home delivery throughout the Gorge and beyond. When the pandemic hit, we saw a huge increase in the need for access to food, so we worked with other local producers to expand our offerings to include other items such as Blue Skies Bakery, Blue Bus Kombuchas and Krauts, and Cascadia Creamery Cheese, and fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms.

When the beloved Mother’s Marketplace in Hood River announced they were closing after 24 years, this was an opportunity to expand providing the Gorge community access to the wealth of locally produced products and produce, while carrying on the legend Mother’s created. In September 2020, Treebird Market opened the doors. Since then, we have grown a lot, we have a strong, hardworking, and caring team of 28+ people; formed incredible relationships with community members, growers, and producers; we’ve made lots of mistakes, and learned a lot of good lessons.

We are excited to be continually learning and growing our partnerships to offer more selection and serve our community.
