Over the past year, we’ve put our hearts into continuing Fish People’s legacy, bringing fresh, sustainable seafood to the Gorge. But despite our best efforts, we’ve faced significant challenges. Managing fresh seafood has been financially tough, and as a small business, the $62k loss in this one area is something we simply can’t afford. Fresh seafood is highly perishable, with a shelf life of only a few days. By the time it reaches us, it’s already a few days old. And as it sits in our case, quality continues to drop, and it doesn’t always sell before its peak freshness fades. Add in the intensive labor costs of managing a fresh seafood case, and it’s clear we need a new approach. That’s why we’ve made the decision to shift our focus to frozen seafood. Flash-freezing seafood right after it’s caught preserves its peak freshness, flavor, and nutrients, so it’s just as high-quality as fresh—without the waste. Frozen seafood lets us respect the precious resources that go into every fish and reduce unnecessary losses. At Treebird Market, we care deeply about our oceans, rivers, and lakes. Sustainable seafood means sourcing in a way that protects fish populations, habitats, and the environment. Moving to frozen seafood allows us to support these sustainable practices, ensuring that these resources are available for future generations. We’re committed to bringing you seafood that’s as good as it gets. For those special times when you want fresh seafood, we’ll offer pre-orders to make sure it’s brought in just for you, minimizing waste and preserving quality. This fresh case is moving out soon and a new freezer is coming as we make room for more frozen options as well as more grab and go ready to eat foods.

Hey folks, we are taking a break from fresh seafood in the case and we have some great frozen options including some beautiful wild Alaskan sockeye salmon from @arni_coraldo or @kodiaksalmoncompany In additional to that, we have creative king, black cod, Petrale sole, halibut, scallops, ruby red trout, lingcod, lox, pink or white shrimp, rockfish and more! Our frozen seafood is either purchased as flash frozen or put in freezers right when we receive it to preserve the highest quality and freshness. Will post updates soon but for now we hope you enjoy our frozen seafood options.

Snippets from today. Every day our team works hard to ensure the store is stocked and everything on our shelves meets our quality and ethics standards. We work with amazing producers and have many items we make right here in house with fabulous ingredients (have you tried our dried bananas?). Many days get away from us without posting here because we are busy serving customers, stocking shelves, and whipping up fresh foods. Oh well, I guess you need to come see us in person…

Honestly we love it when customers start to dance or sing along with the music we are jamming to in the store. Sometimes you gotta just let loose and have a little fun. Oh, and we friggen love our team.

New recipe alert! Our gluten free salmon cakes got a revamp with fresh dill, green onions, lemon zest and some simple salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder (along with egg, mayo, and mustard).
